Karen Karapetyan Welcomes St. Petersburg Governor




Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan received today St. Petersburg Governor Georgy Poltavchenko, who is in our country to attend St. Petersburg Days in Armenia.

Prioritizing the development of decentralized cooperation between Armenia and Russia, the Prime Minister noted that there is great potential to be tapped in this area. Karen Karapetyan pointed out the need to use different platforms in order to add momentum to regional economic cooperation, including tourism, trade turnover and so on. Welcoming the idea of holding St. Petersburg Days in Yerevan and vice versa, Karen Karapetyan said it may provide a favorable environment to strengthen ties.

Thankful for the reception, Georgy Poltavchenko noted that the volume of bilateral trade has considerably increased in recent years owing to active cooperation with Yerevan. He stressed that activities in this direction are being implemented in accordance with the proposed action plan. The Governor pointed out that the Armenian products and commodities are in great demand in St. Petersburg, adding that sales will increase significantly after the opening of Yerevan Trade House in the city.

According to Georgy Poltavchenko, St. Petersburg and Yerevan have been taking consistent steps to boost cooperation in healthcare, agriculture, tourism, cultural and humanitarian spheres. As he said, St. Petersburg-based businessmen are seriously interested in implementing investment projects in Armenia and stand ready to consider different projects and proposals.

Welcoming the steps aimed at implementing joint projects, Karen Karapetyan assured of his government’s willingness to support the implementation of various initiatives. The Premier noted that investors from St. Petersburg may look upon Armenia as a platform to enter the Iranian market mediating the free economic zone of Meghri.
