Armenian-Iraqi economic cooperation prospects discussed

Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan received a delegation headed by Iraqi Agriculture Minister Falah Hassan Zeidan, co-chair of the Armenian-Iraqi intergovernmental commission.

Stressing the need for continued development of relations with Iraq, the Head of Government expressed confidence that the sitting of the Armenian-Iraqi intergovernmental commission in Yerevan would contribute to the strengthening and consolidation of bilateral ties. Karen Karapetyan said that cooperation in agriculture, power engineering, tourism and education might be prospective

“We must make maximum effort to achieve growth in commodity turnover between our two countries because we have great potential,” the Prime Minister said, highlighting the intergovernmental commission’s work and the strengthening of cooperation between the respective chambers of commerce.

Falah Hassan Zeidan conveyed warm greetings and best wishes on behalf of the Iraqi Prime Minister, expressing conviction that the sitting of the intergovernmental commission in Yerevan would help build stronger and deeper relationship between Armenia and Iraq.

He underlined that they were ready to do everything possible to implement the agreements reached during the commission’s sitting, which might go a long way towards dramatically increasing the volume of bilateral trade turnover.

“We are interested in importing Armenian competitive and high-quality agricultural and other products. Iraq is short of electricity, and we can also discuss the possibility of importing electricity from Armenia,” the Iraqi Minister said. He highlighted the importance of cooperation in the field of tourism and the provision of favorable conditions for Iraqi students’ studies in Armenian universities.

In this regard, Falah Hassan Zeidan deemed it expedient to consider the possibility of visa facilitation. Prime Minister Karapetyan expressed confidence that all the agreements reached between the two countries would be implemented as soon as possible to the best interest of the two peoples.
