Armenia-Egypt Economic Cooperation Prospects Discussed
Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan today received a delegation led by Dr Sahar Nasr, Minister for Investment and International Cooperation of the Arab Republic of Egypt, who is in Armenia ta attend the 5th session of the Armenian-Egyptian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation.
As Karen Karapetyan noted, the delegation’s visit may give fresh impetus to the development of the Armenian-Egyptian relations and will step up the work of the intergovernmental commission.
Appreciating Dr Nasr’s active role in ensuring Egypt’s economic achievements, the Premier noted that there are all the necessary prerequisites for boosting bilateral cooperation.
“We will give careful consideration to all those initiatives aimed at activating relationship between our two countries and, in this respect, today’s meeting of the intergovernmental commission, which follows up an earlier session dating as far back as to 2005, is a good opportunity to give further impetus to bilateral cooperation,” the Head of Government said.
The Prime Minister pointed out that Armenia is a good platform for initiating investment projects not only in local, but also in third markets.
The Egyptian Minister for Investment and International Cooperation expressed satisfaction with the proceedings of and the agreements reached at the 5th session of the intergovernmental commission. “We have discussed opportunities for cooperation in all areas of mutual interest, such as economy, tourism, culture, education, and healthcare, with the chief objective being the furtherance of trade-economic and investment relations between our countries,” Sahar Nasr said.
Well aware of the reform program initiated by the Armenian government, Minister Nasr said Egypt’s economic system is undergoing serious reforms, too. New approaches and programs are being worked out, and the intergovernmental commission’s meeting comes as a good opportunity to boost economic cooperation.
The interlocutors talked about the further steps to intensify trade exchanges, tap the full potential of economic relations in the frame of free economic zones and tourism, pay cognitive visits and other issues.
Prime Minister Karapetyan expressed conviction that the business forum, which will take place after the intergovernmental commission’s meeting, is another effective platform for getting acquainted with investment opportunities in the two countries and discussing joint programs.
