Karen Karapetyan Meets with President of Artsakh

Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan who is in the Republic of Artsakh met today with Artsakh Republic President Bako Sahakyan.

Welcoming the RA delegation, President Bako Sahakyan stressed that economic cooperation with Armenia is at a high level, considering it one of the most important prerequisites for the Artsakh Republic’s development and strengthening. Noting that Artsakh’s economy has recorded quite high figures this year, the AR President appreciated the contribution of the Armenian Government to these achievements. He cited a number of ambitious programs due to be implemented in 2018.

President Sahakyan asked Karen Karapetyan to give details of the activities of the free economic zone which was opened earlier today in Meghri. Noting that several FEZ-related agreements have been signed today, the Head of the Armenian Government stressed that this is a very important step that will have a multiplier effect. “We will boast specific figures this year, which testify to positive trends. Of course, this does not mean at all that there is not much work to be done, but we have a clear idea of how we should develop our economy,” the Prime Minister said.

Speaking about the economic cooperation with neighboring Iran, Karen Karapetyan pointed out that the 9% growth in bilateral trade as stated this year is far from reflecting the actual potential.

The Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of Artsakh discussed a wide range of issues related to energy, healthcare, territorial administration, agriculture and a number of other areas. In this context, they stressed the need for exchange of know-how and closer cooperation between the relevant government departments. The parties discussed security issues, including the Nagorno-Karabakh problem.
