On the margins of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council meeting, Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan met with Belarusian Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov in Almaty.
The Prime Ministers discussed the Armenian-Belarusian economic cooperation agenda and the prospects of cooperation development. The Armenian Premier noted with satisfaction that commodity turnover between the two countries grew by 20 percent in the first 11 months of last year as compared to the same period in 2016. The parties agreed that there is great potential for deepening bilateral relations, and the above trends should be upheld and promoted.
Karen Karapetyan briefed his Belarusian counterpart on the opportunities offered by the Free Economic Zone that opened last November near the Armenian-Iranian border, noting that it might be interesting for Belarusian businesses and, especially, for agricultural companies.
The possibilities of cooperation in various fields, including livestock breeding, information technologies and other spheres, were discussed during the meeting. From this point of view, both sides attached importance to Intergovernmental Commission’s activities.
The Prime Ministers availed themselves of the opportunity to discuss a number of issues related to cooperation within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union.
