Sevan National Park Reforms Discussed in Government
Chaired by Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan, a consultation was held today in the Office of Government to discuss the Sevan National Park reforms and development strategy.
29 reforms worth 14 billion drams were said to have been envisaged under the reform program. The proposed activities will be aimed at creating a biosphere reserve on the basis of Sevan National Park, elaborating a national park management plan, clearing lake water and wetlands, dismantling the buildings gone under water, and specifying the areas of historical and cultural monuments, delineation of leisure and recreation areas in accordance with modern tourism requirements, etc. Measures will also be taken to ensure and enforce responsible industrial fishing, ecologically clean production, organization of greenhouses, establishment of intensive orchards, as well as the construction of a coastal alley circling the Lchashen-Sevan section. It was reported that this year two investment projects will be implemented in the National Park by private investors.
Karen Karapetyan stressed the need for achieving enhanced efficiency in the maintenance and management of the National Park and emphasized that the local communities’ interests should also be taken into consideration in order to promote their development. The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of implementing zoning activities within the National Park and establishing clear-cut standards for investment programs, ecosystem conservation, formation of green areas and other activities.
