Issues related to effective road traffic management in Yerevan discussed with Prime Minister
Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan called a consultative meeting to discuss ways and possibilities for reducing traffic jams through efficient organization of road traffic in Yerevan.
In particular, the meeting explored the possibility of public-private sector partnership in developing, repairing and managing underground parking spaces in different parts of the city, especially on busy streets and establishing parking lots on free charitable routes. Proposals were made to build barracks for pedestrians to prevent them from crossing streets at arbitrary spots.
The Traffic Police was said to have made consistent efforts in order to solve the problem of second-lane parking on the road sections of educational institutions and public places. Cameras will be installed in different sections for that purpose.
The Traffic Police is currently implementing a pilot program for new traffic light systems installation in the outskirts of the city which, according to preliminary estimates, proved to be quite effective, and the program can be expanded in the near future.
Prime Minister Karapetyan instructed those responsible to thoroughly analyze all submitted versions and come up with finalized recommendations aimed at ensuring efficient traffic management and handling of downtown traffic.
