Today Republic of Armenia Prime Minister Andranik Margaryan has received outgoing U.S. Ambassador to Armenia John Evans.
Having thanked Mr. Evans for the past two years' effective cooperation with the Government of Armenia in his capacity of Ambassador, the Prime Minister said that despite such short tenure of office, the outcomes of his work were quite appreciable. He mentioned a series of already completed and ongoing programs carried out by the USAID in our country in various spheres, the proceedings of the Armenian-American intergovernmental commission and, especially, the design and approval of the Millenium Challenge Account Armenia program which, according to the Prime Minister, was the most important achievement of the Armenian-American cooperation in the recent period.
Likewise appreciative of the ongoing cooperation with the Government of Armenia, Mr. Evans said that he was leaving our country with the certitude that the reforms underway in different sectors would be continued with as much success. In the opinion of the Ambassador, Armenia had embarked on the right path of development and could shortly reach leading positions in the region by making use of the existing potentialities. John Evans also wished successful holding of the 2007 parliamentary elections in line with the international standards.
During the meeting, both sides expressed confidence that the pace of the Armenian-American developing relationship would be maintained with the incoming Ambassador. Pending such appointment, on behalf of his government, the Prime Minister expressed readiness to cooperation with the eventual Acting Ambassador.
In conclusion, Prime Minister Andranik Margaryan wished Ambassador John Evans every success in his future activities.
