Remarks delivered by Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan at the festive event dedicated to the National Holiday of France
Dear Mr. Ambassador,
Honorable diplomatic corps representatives,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
On behalf of the people of the Republic of Armenia, the government and myself, I cordially congratulate the friendly people of France on the country’s national holiday.
It is not a secret that the Armenians have special feelings for France. On July 14, two centuries ago, the seizure of Bastille ushered in the beginning of the French Revolution. The latter sought to establish freedom, equality and fraternity in France, resulting in the Declaration on the Rights of Man and the Citizen, which enshrined the universal values and rights that are today professed by many countries and nations around the globe.
Armenia not only shares these principles and values, but also lives with them as evidenced by the Velvet Revolution.
The principled position of the friendly French authorities on issues of vital importance to Armenia and the Armenian people is invaluable. Armenia highly appreciates the efforts exerted by France and the other OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair for the sake of a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Armenia likewise appreciates the inclusion of April 24 in the French republican calendar as the Day of Remembrance of the Armenian Genocide. I would like to once again express our people’s deep gratitude in this connection.
I am confident that the deeply-rooted warm and friendly Armenian-French relations will continue to strengthen and deepen.
I once again congratulate the French Ambassador, the Embassy staff and all Frenchmen in Armenia and across the world on the National Holiday of France.
Long live the Armenian-French friendship! Long live France, Long live Armenia!
