Mher Grigoryan Receives High-Ranking Council of Europe Experts
Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan today received high-ranking CoE experts Diana Kovacheva (former Minister of Justice, incumbent Deputy Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Bulgaria), and Gerhard Reizner (former Chairman of the Advisory Council of European Judges, ex-President of the International Association of Judges and European Association of Judges). In attendance was Council of Europe Yerevan Office Head Natalia Vutova.
Welcoming the guests, the Deputy Prime Minister stressed the importance of today’s meeting with the CoE experts. The discussion focused on the Government’s priorities in reforming the judiciary and fighting against corruption. The interlocutors referred to the grounds and the procedure for initiating disciplinary proceedings against judges and the range of competent authorities for initiating such proceedings, the toolkits to be used by the Anticorruption Court and the Anticorruption Committee, the need to improve the institution of income and assets declaration, and so on.
Views were exchanged on the steps to be taken by the government in the fight against corruption, as well as on the importance of addressing judicial system deficiencies by means of effective solutions.
