Mher Grigoryan Meets with EU Representatives
Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan today received a delegation led by Vasilis Maragos, Head of the unit responsible for Armenia affairs at the European Commission Directorate for General for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations. The delegation has arrived in Armenia on a working visit. Head of EU Delegation to Armenia Andrea Viktorin was in attendance.
Greeting the guests and congratulating them on the past holidays, the Deputy Premier expressed hope that the sides would carry on the ongoing productive cooperation in the same constructive manner in 2020. Mher Grigoryan was pleased with the progressive pace of bilateral cooperation. Evoking the Partnership Committee’s joint statement, he highlighted the progress recorded on the way to implementing the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
The Deputy Premier introduced the process of developing and approving per-sector strategies and the logic of development of Armenia’s transformation strategy, outlining its main objectives, which stem from the CEPA and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Mher Grigoryan attached importance to our country’s development partners’ involvement in the process of strategy development, highlighting the donor community’s participation in the discussion of individual strategies.
Thankful for the reception, Vasilis Maragos said the meeting was a good opportunity to review the work done so far and outline the upcoming activities. He appreciated the ongoing fruitful cooperation that has led to increased assistance for Armenia, noting that the EU is prepared to be Armenia’s reliable partner in the implementation of the proposed development programs.
The parties emphasized the importance of reforms in the field of justice and police. Vasilis Maragos welcomed the reforms implemented by the government in this area and the plans it has set. Reference was made to EU’s priorities to be proposed as part of the Eastern Partnership and the directions for joint programming after 2020.
