Discussion Held with University Rectors
Given the state of emergency declared in the Republic of Armenia, a meeting with the rectors of universities was held at the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport to discuss organizational issues related to the academic process.
Chaired by Deputy Minister Grisha Tamrazyan, the meeting explored universities’ capabilities and the problems faced in organizing distance learning in the country.
Based on the specifics of universities, the rectors presented their proposals and approaches to the organization of the educational process. Other options for replenishing the hours planned by the curriculum were also discussed, including options for working on a tightened program, creating a unified electronic platform with video lectures, organizing theoretical training by e-mail, etc.
Thus, as a result of the discussion, guided by paragraph 1.8 of the Charter of the NGO “Council of Rectors of State Higher Educational Institutions” and taking as the basis the meeting of the general meeting of the NGO “Council of Rectors of State Higher Educational Institutions” dated March 16, 2020, it was decided:
“Considering the state of emergency caused by the spread of a new coronavirus disease in the Republic of Armenia and the decision of the Government of the Republic of Armenia to declare a state of emergency from March 16 to April 14, 2020, apply to the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of the Republic of Armenia with the following proposal on ensuring continuity educational process in higher educational institutions (hereinafter - universities) and the organization of the process in a new format:
Subject to compliance with emergency requirements, allow universities:
a) Organize the processes of teaching and testing knowledge in the current half-year based on the professional orientation of the university and the specifics of the disciplines taught, if possible using modern information and communication technologies, taking full responsibility for the results;
b) Make changes to working days while maintaining the wages of employees and their right to rest.”
