Tigran Avinyan Meets with Iranian Ambassador
On February 5, Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan met with IRI Ambassador to Armenia Abbas Badakhshan Zohouri.
Greeting the guest, Tigran Avinyan noted that the Armenian-Iranian relations are distinguished by centuries-old friendship based on mutual trust and mutual respect. The parties agreed that the Armenian-Iranian cooperation implies a comprehensive agenda, which should be implemented step by step. Noting that stability, peace and sustainable development are in the best interest of both Armenia and Iran, Tigran Avinyan referred to the regional situation following Azerbaijan’s military aggression against Artsakh. The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the issue of prisoner exchange as a priority for Armenia.
The parties discussed issues of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. Ambassador Zohouri stressed the need to maximize the potential of economic relations. In the context of implementing the agreements reached so far, Tigran Avinyan made a point of completing the Iran-Armenia 400 kV Power Transmission Line and Noravan Substation projects.
The Deputy Premier said the Gas for Electricity program is a strategic direction of cooperation. In this context, he appreciated the arrangement made in December, 2020 to extend the terms of the agreement, as well as to increase the volume of gas and electricity supplies.
Issues related to the Persian Gulf-Black Sea international transport corridor were discussed during the meeting. The Deputy Prime Minister spoke about the opportunities for cooperation in the field of information and telecommunication technologies, including as part of the Europe-Armenia-Iran-Qatar regional telecommunication project.
