Mher Grigoryan Receives Swedish Ambassador

Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan today received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden to the Republic of Armenia Patrik Svensson.

Greeting the Ambassador, the Deputy Premier appreciated Sweden’s decision to have a resident Ambassador for the development of bilateral relations. Mher Grigoryan congratulated the Ambassador on being appointed to this important post.

Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan noted that there is huge potential for developing bilateral relations. In particular, he singled out the trade and economic spheres, which call for sustained joint effort. The Deputy Premier touched upon the war unleashed by Azerbaijan in September, 2020, and the socio-economic situation in Artsakh. Reference was also made to the challenges posed by the coronavirus in 2020.

Thankful for the reception, Patrik Svensson stressed the need for deeper interaction between the two countries, noting that Sweden welcomes the Government’s readiness to implement systemic reforms, and is prepared to continue supporting the reform process. The Ambassador singled out three areas to assist Armenia: human rights, market economy, climate and environment.

The parties looked at the possibility of getting Swedish capital involved in Armenia by presenting Armenia’s business opportunities, considering the prospects for entering the EAEU market. The interlocutors stressed the importance of having completed the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement ratification process. In conclusion, reference was made to the process of unblocking the regional transport communications.
