Deputy PM Suren Papikyan’s congratulatory message on 30th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Armenia
Dear compatriots,
Congratulations on the 30th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Armenia.
Thirty years ago, the people of Armenia unanimously and decisively said "yes" to independence, taking control of their own destiny. Armenia gained its independence in accordance with the USSR Constitution and laws, which ensured the smoothness and peaceful transition of the process. The establishment of independence in 1991 was the result of a well-calculated process, a great achievement for our people, who had been deprived of independent statehood for centuries.
In parallel with gaining independence, Armenia established and developed state institutions. Along with the formation of branches of Government, Armenia created an army that became a strong guarantee of its own security. Supporting the just demand of the Artsakh Armenians, becoming the guarantor of the latter's security, Armenia managed to save Artsakh from the existential threat.
In the previous decades, our country went through both great internal and external shocks. Despite all the losses and achievements, today in Armenia there is a clear understanding that independence is not bargainable. It is our identity, our essence, and our development prospects are conditioned by independence. Although independent Armenia is celebrating its 30th anniversary in a difficult situation, the difficulties are temporary and the independent Armenian statehood is permanent. Each historical stage has its own peculiarities and problems, which, however, are solvable and transient, while it is the independent state that must eternal.
I once again congratulate all of us on the Independence Day of the Republic of Armenia with the confidence that with the unwavering will and determination of our people, the Diaspora and all Armenians, we will resist the current challenges. Today we must cherish our independent statehood, spare no effort to strengthen it, to inherit a well-established state for future generations.
