If up by some 9 cm, water in Lake Sevan will reach the level of 1960
Today RA State Water Committee Head Andranik Andreasyan gave a news conference at the Government’s press center. He referred to water intake-related problems. Each year early in summer the government defines a quota for getting irrigation water from Lake Sevan. The speaker said that the maximum amount of water drawn from Sevan is set at 170mn cubic meters. This year the government decided that the intake quota should rise up to 144.5 million cubic meters for the irrigation season of 2010. Note that only 124mn cubic meters were drawn last year owing to favorable meteorological conditions. Andranik Andreasyan stressed that the established quota will suffice considering the availability of adequate resources built up in the reservoirs of the Ararat Valley.
The speaker also spoke about the problem of Sevan’s level. Water level in Sevan was said to have increased by some 66cm over last year’s figure to reach the mark of 1899.91m this year. Andranik Andreasyan assured that enough resource has been stored in Sevan thanks to past two years’ abundant rain and snowfalls. As result, if increased by some 9 cm, water in Lake Sevan will reach the level of 1960.
