Joint press conference by RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan and RF Government Vice President Alexander Zhukov
RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan and RF Government Vice President Alexander Zhukov met with journalists at the press center of RA Government to comment on a bilateral cooperation-related agenda.
“Our sports bases can be of interest to Russian athletes. I hope that the exchange of views and the ongoing attempts of cooperation will be successful as the Russian side seems to have great interest. ASSR-based sports centers contributed much to the achievements of all-Union athletes in Soviet era. This speaks about Armenia’s strong potential for the development of professional sport,” Tigran Sargsyan noted in part.
Alexander Zhukov noted in turn that his visit seeks to strengthen the existing ties of cooperation between our two countries and the two Olympic committees, in particular.
“Armenia used to be known for its sporting traditions in Soviet era, with important sports bases operational in here. The athletes trained in those bases were highly competitive. Today as well, Armenia is taking an active part in international competitions,” Alexander Zhukov told the journalists. As he said, the sports complex of Tsakhkadzor is still much sought for in sporting circles abroad.
“We should make every effort to develop cooperation in this area. Russian athletes may train in Armenia. In return, we are prepared to communicate our trainers’ experience. We can enable joint trainings of Armenian and Russian athletes ahead of key international competitions. I think there is a serious development potential in this field,” Alexander Zhukov added.
Mr. Zhukov advised that his delegation had been introduced to the project of Lake Sevan’s sports complex which might well complement the sports base of Tsakhkadzor.
Opinions were said to have been exchanged on those transformations underway in the two countries, especially covering the welfare and educational spheres, inclusive of pension, educational and healthcare reforms.
