Small And Medium-Size Business Overburdened With Taxes In Armenia
The council on small and medium-size enterprise development held its second meeting in the Office of Government, chaired by council head, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan. The sitting was followed by a briefing involving Coordinator of Business Advocacy Network NGO Gagik Poghosyan and President of Armenian Shippers Union NGO Yeghishe Hovhannisyan.
“Small and medium-size businesses are overburdened with taxes in Armenia,” Gagik Poghosyan noted citing those countries where the development of small and medium-size enterprise is deemed as a priority and start-up businesses enjoy tax holidays.
Asked whether it can be stated that a SME-friendly policy is pursued in our country, Gagik Poghosyan said, “Something is being done of course. For instance, the establishment of this council is quite a positive step in this direction.”
The speaker said both medium-term and global issues have been raised on the part of council members.
According to him, the problem is high on the council agenda and they are doing everything to reduce the tax burden through legislative means.
Note that the council is composed of representatives of public agencies, business community, international organizations and civil stakeholders.
