Corruption Risks Shrinking Nationwide
During the press conference held after the Cabinet sitting, expert Armen Khudaverdyan advised that owing to the government’s anti-corruption strategy, corruption risks proved 5% down in 2012 compared to 2008. The statistics is being summarized to be published next year.
“It is noteworthy that corruption went down in health care, road police and tax service which used to be prone to large-scale corruption,” Khudaverdyan noted. Twice as many cases were said revealed in the first half of 2011 as compared to the same period of 2010 which is a net improvement in terms of prevention.
According to Assistant to Prime Minister Yeghishe Kirakosyan, the implementation of the government’s anti-corruption strategy is closely monitored by international organizations, such as the GRECO international anti-corruption group and Transparency International. An institutional framework is up to streamline Armenia’s anti-corruption efforts.
Highlighting the impact of preventive measures in this directon, Yeghishe Kirakosyan emphasized the importance of the law on public service, effective as of early next year, under which an ethics commission will be set up to put on record the assets and incomes of public officials.
