“Goravani Avazutner,” “Lake Arpi” Reserves To Be Restored
During the briefing session following today’s government’s sitting, Minister of Nature Protection Aram Harutyunyan commented on the progress in “Goravani Avazutner” State reserve restoration work in 2013-2015, as well as on the extension until November, 2012 of the “Financial cooperation between Armenia and Germany: Environmental Program in South Caucasus, Lake Arpi National Park” program as supported by the government of the Federal Republic of Germany through KfW Development Bank. Situated in Khosrov reserve, ”Goravani Avazutner” needs improving.
The Minister noted in particular, “Most of the problems concern the maintenance regime. Infrastructures are needed and efforts have to be made to this end, including fencing, fauna and flora protection activities.
Another decision was taken concerning “Lake Arpi’ national reserve. The latter is a trans-boundary protected area, which is protected and maintained in cooperation with the neighboring countries.
The Minister reminded that at the program start up the launch of the Euro 2.2mn-worth project was announced, implemented together with the German government. The following activities were said complete so far: construction of the visitors’ center and the national park’s administrative building, mapping and surveying work.
Aram Harutyunyan advised that 14 other projects are being carried out in the following areas: community drinking water supply, meat processing industry, apiculture and so on.
