Vulnerable Household Student Tuition Fees To Be Funded By State In Full Or In Part
At a press conference held at the Government Press Center, Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan advised that from September 1, 2013, the State will be paying in full or in part the tuition fee for about 1,000 students from vulnerable households through the system of student benefits.
At its October 10 sitting the Government approved a new procedure for granting partial refund of tuition fees with the options of 50 to 100 percent compensation for students from vulnerable families.
”This is one of the most important provisions of the program of the Government. The issue is also kept in focus by the President of the Republic of Armenia. Thus, young people coming from poor families will no longer worry about making educational payments and will be able to get higher education with the support of the State,” Ashotyan said. According to the Minister, by 2015 the number of beneficiaries will come to 2500.
Referring to the National Engineering Laboratory project, Mr. Ashotyan noted that preparative work has already come to completion. USD 6.2mn-worth investment will be made to this end through the joint efforts of the Government of Armenia, the United States Agency for International Development, the famous National Instruments Corporation and the State Engineering University of Armenia.
“This is an unprecedented investment in the field engineering education infrastructures. The program will help create over 30 laboratories nationwide, where students will get advanced knowledge. We believe that this program is a turning point in the development of engineering,” the Minister of Education and Science of Armenia concluded.
