The Ministry of Healthcare continued reforming the healthcare system during 2012. This was stated by Minister of Healthcare Derenik Dumanyan during the year-end press conference at the Government’s Press Center.
He said that the government had prepared and approved a program plus action plan for public control in healthcare and drug policy issues to provide a guideline for the next 6-7 months.
According to the Minister, the modernization of regional hospitals is continued. The following projects will be launched or completed in 2013: construction of Meghri Regional Medical Center, renovation of Kapan Medical Center, modernization of Alaverdi, Abovyan and Berd medical centers, construction of a 190 bed-strong third-level multifunctional medical center in Vanadzor.
”But the existing problems will not be solved in full through such modern medical centers. To prevent patients from coming to Yerevan for treatment, regional hospitals should provide basic services and narrow specialists,” Mr. Dumanyan emphasized.
