Andranik Andreasyan: “Shortfalls Addressed At Contractors’ Expense”
Head of State Water Management Committee by the Ministry of Territorial Administration of the Republic of Armenia Andranik Andreasyan gave a news conference at the Government’s press center in connection with the Audit Chamber’s latest report.
Note that according to the report, sample checkups of AMD8 986,090.0 thousand worth of activities carried out at 8 facilities under the Water Management PIO State Institution had revealed irregularities to a total cost of AMD47,158.2 thousand.
As Mr. Andreasyan noted, poor quality was considered to be caused by surface cracks made during concrete surfacing work. According to the speaker, such cracks may occur in fresh concrete after fast drying, especially if the latter has additives that slow down the process of consolidation. Cracks may also be caused by direct exposure to wind and sun rays.
Mr. Andreasyan further observed that the rehabilitation work was carried out during the winter season, which contributed to the emergence of cracks and other irregularities. He advised that subsequently all the cracks and other shortfalls were addressed by the contractor.
Concerning the water leak observed at some U-turns of Talin water-main, the speaker said that the relevant section has been elevated and no water leak is taking place now.
