Air Transport Liberalization To Lead To 1-2% Growth In Armenia



Today’s Cabinet sitting adopted a decision approved a program to ensure competitive and continued provision of air transport services, established a project implementation task force and endorsed its composition. After assessing several draft projects, it turned out that the policy of open skies will have the greatest positive impact on the economy, leading to jobs and growth in the number of passengers, as well as to reduced flight tariffs.

Minister of Economy Vahram Avanesyan and National Competitiveness Foundation Executive Director Arman Khachaturyan commented on the government’s decision during the news conference that was held after the Cabinet sitting at the Government Press Center.

V. Avanesyan said the liberalization of air transport will lead to 1-2 percent growth in Armenia. According to him, the growth will be translated in increased tourism and greater investment opportunities.

According to National Competitiveness Foundation Executive Director Aram Khachaturian, the program may help create some 18-23 thousand new high-paying jobs.
