Ministry of Economy Reports Back CU Accession-Aimed Activities
The Government Press Center hosted a press conference dedicated to the activities carried out under the authority of the Ministry of Economy with the view of joining the Customs Union.
Speakers were Deputy Minister of Economy, head of the working group on non-tariff regulation and industrial issues Tigran Harutyunyan and Deputy Minister of Economy, head of the working group on tariff regulation and trade policy between the World Trade Organization and third countries Garegin Melkonyan.
According to Garegin Melkonyan, the Ministry of Economy has already developed a title of list of goods imported in Armenia at lower customs rates than the ones currently applicable in the Customs Union. The list, which is still being finalized, consists of some 900 items.
“All sensitive products are included in the list. I am hereby inviting private companies, all the stakeholders to take part in the discussions,” Mr. Melkonyan stated adding that the list of customs duties applicable in Armenia and the Customs Union is available at the official website of the Ministry of Economy.
Deputy Minister of Economy Tigran Harutyunyan advised that a workshop will be held in Yerevan this March 10 involving non-tariff regulation policy experts from the Eurasian Economic Commission. The meeting will discuss emerging challenges and roadmap-specified actions.
