Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Ministry of Transport and Communications Report Back CU Accession-Aimed Activities

A task force is up at the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources to ensure Armenia’s adherence to 3 Customs Union-associated agreements. This is what Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Head of the Energy Affairs Working Group Iosif Isayan told the news conference, which was held today at the Government Press Center. According to the speaker, the aforementioned agreements relate to electricity, gas and oil fields.

Armenia’s legislative framework was said to have been analyzed, including the law on energy and the decisions passed by the Public Services Regulatory Commission. As a result, the above legal acts proved in harmony with said agreements. “Hence, 70 percent of the required 32 steps in the energy sector have already been implemented,” the Deputy Minister concluded.

In turn, Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications, Head of the Transport Affairs Working Group Artashes Avetisyan introduced the activities carried out by his ministry, noting that it is question of two agreements: one relating to motor-borne control of CU external borders, and a second on the accessibility of railroad services.

“Eurasian Economic Commission representatives were in Armenia on February 12-14 and, on close scrutiny, found out that there were no hindrances whatsoever for Armenia’s joining the above two agreements,” Mr. Avetisyan said.
