Government Staff Awarded Information Freedom Center’s Appreciation Letter For Shaping And Boosting Transparency Traditions
On International Information Freedom Day, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan attended the Golden Key and Rusty Padlock annual award-giving ceremony as hosted by Information Freedom Center Armenia, dated to the Center’s 10th anniversary.
Congratulating the audience on International Information Freedom Day, the Prime Minister said that information availability is kept in focus by the Armenian government. “For 10 years now, the Information Freedom Center Armenia has been advocating and promoting information freedom in Armenia. The Center feels the pulse of our watchfulness by checking how abiding and transparent public agencies are in the exercise of powers. The government appreciates your efforts as they help get information through to the public-at-large from public and private institutions.”
According to Tigran Sargsyan, information handling is a primary concern in modern world. “What matters most is the trustworthiness of information. We have had significant achievements over the last few years in terms of enhancing information freedom and transparency in public agencies. Thanks to the use of modern technologies, Armenia is in the top-ten of those countries providing detailed information on budget application in online mode. Any citizen can visit the government’s website to follow online the spending implemented by the Ministry of Finance In this respect, the Center is supposed to expose our weaknesses and shortfalls.”
The Prime Minister noted that Golden Key and Rusty Padlock are perceived as excellent tools for interaction, expected to boost transparency and efficiency in the public sector.
Information Freedom Center Armenia President Shushan Doidoyan handed a letter of appreciation to Deputy Chief of Government Staff Tigran Gevorgyan for nurturing and spurring on a tradition of transparency within the government.
Thanking the Center for objective assessment of the work done so far, Tigran Gevorgyan assured of continued adherence to the principles embraced by the Government Staff.
Remind that www.e-gov.am was awarded the Golden Key last year in the nomination of best information content.
In addition to the Golden Key awarded in 6 different nominations, special prizes were today handed to 10 Armenia-based organizations for significant contribution to the freedom of information.
Note that according to this month’s world competitiveness report, Armenia was 35th among 142 countries as per the transparent public policy development index.
