Government Looks at Ways of Popularizing Physical Education
Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan chaired a consultative meeting to discuss a set of measures aimed at popularizing physical culture and developing the network of sport schools in the Republic of Armenia. Reference was made to the process of revising academic programs in physical education as approved by the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs and the Ministry of Education and Science. The Prime Minister instructed to finalize the ongoing activities and submit a clear action plan within shortest possible deadlines.
Then the meeting discussed steps aimed at addressing the sports equipment-related bottlenecks in educational institutions and sports gyms. Karen Karapetyan stressed the need to evaluate the costs and implement sport schools modernization projects. “Healthy lifestyle and sports are very important, and we have to provide the necessary conditions for implementation of appropriate policies in urban and rural settlement,” he said. The Premier emphasized that public-private cooperation should be used to introduce modern management mechanisms in the activities aimed at refurbishing the gym halls and sport schools.
The findings of the Prime Minister’s Control Service-conducted study on the teaching of physical culture and the participation of pupils and students in educational institutions were presented during the meeting. The speakers came up with relevant proposals and recommendations.
The Head of Government told the heads of government departments to seriously study and implement specific measures to tackle the problems.
