Mher Grigoryan Receives IFC Regional Vice President

Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan received a delegation led by Regional Vice President of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Georgina Baker.

Welcoming the guests, the Deputy Premier expressed his appreciation of the ongoing cooperation with IFC and highlighted IFC‘s role in the development of Armenia’s private sector.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that the International Finance Corporation promotes a business culture that meets the Armenian government’s sector-specific strategies. Mher Grigoryan stressed that transparency is being enhanced through joint effort, which in turn helps them develop more accurate principles for cooperation.

Thankful for the reception, Georgina Baker said this is her first visit to our country as IFC Regional Vice-President, during which she could get a first-hand idea of the current status of Armenia’s economy in order to understand which way the IFC could support the reforms planned by the Government of Armenia. Mrs. Baker complimented the Government for achieving tangible growth in the economy and voiced her satisfaction with the progress made in the sphere of tourism.

At the guest’s request, the Deputy Prime Minister outlined those areas in which he believes there are vast opportunities for bilateral cooperation. Mher Grigoryan highlighted the development of the capital market, the projects that deal with the private sector and alternative energy. He made a point of the ongoing partnership between the state and the private sector, the development of small and medium-sized enterprises and high-tech industry.

Both sides acknowledged that there is huge potential available for the development of start-ups in Armenia. Coming to the implementation of joint projects as part of public-private sector partnership, the interlocutors discussed the prospects for IFC’s involvement in them.
